5.0 DISCUSSION
The Stroh pit mining operation is predicted to lower the water table due to the
effects of pumping. Lowering of the water table could be of concern where there
are alluvial water supply wells within 600 ft of pumping. Since there are no wells
within 600 ft of the proposed Stroh excavation, then there should be.no concern
regarding an offsite depression of the water table. Following reclamation, the
evaporation of surface water in the lakes is predicted to lower the local water
table as well, but to a much lesser extent. It is understood that a high water table
is of concern in the Thompson River Ranch development and for some building
sites, it is recommended that curtain drains be installed in basements to mitigate
for high groundwater. It could therefore be said that the ultimate slight lowering of
the water table should be favorable for the surrounding development.
Stroh Pit
Groundwater Analysis Report
6 of 8
