2.05.3 ( 1 )
• The applicant expects to be able to rip the coal with a
track dozer in order to prepare it for loading. Coal will be loaded
into highway type trucks with a rubber tired front end loader or
other comparable loading equipment. The coal haulage trucks will
transport the coal from the mine to the coal consumers via the
county road to the south of the area to be mined. Up to sixty
loaded coal trucks will travel the road each day. Up to 350,000
tons of coal per year will be mined from the property.
(2 ) Operation Description
The initial phase of the operation will be topsoil sal-
vage and stockpiling and sediment pond construction.
The next phase of the operation will be production open
pit mining. The first and last pit in the mining areas are shown
on the Mine Plan Map, Map 115. Overburden from the first pit in
Area 1 will be excavated and placed in the temporary spoil pile
where shown on the Mine Plan Map. Approximately 81,000 cubic yards
of spoil will be excavated and placed in the temporary pile. This
spoil will remain in stockpile until required to backfill the last
pit in Mining Area No. 1. The last pit in Area 1 has a calculated
void volume of 89;000 cubic yards. The temporary spoil pile from
the first pit will therefore have about the right amount of
material to backfill the last pit. The deficiency in spoil
material (81,000 - 89,000 ) will be obtained from the pits adjacent
to the last pit to help blend the reclaimed area into the natural
terrain.
After the coal from the first pit is removed, the
overburden and spoil from the advancing pit will be placed directly
into the first pit. This sequence will continue throughout the
mining area.
Production mining from Mining Area 2 will proceed the
same as in Area 1. The topsoil from the initial mining area will
be salvaged as well as the topsoil from the location where the
spoil from the first pit is to be placed. Overburden from the
first pit in Area 2 will be excavated and placed in the temporary
spoil pile where shown on the Mine Plan Map. Approximately 19,608
cubic yards of spoil will be excavated and placed in the temporary
pile. This spoil will remain in stockpile until required to
backfill the last pit in Mining Area No. 2 . The last pit in Area
2 has a calculated void volume of 20,375 cubic yards. The
temporary spoil pile from the first pit will therefore have more
than adequate material to backfill the last pit.
2.05-3 May 1992
I
