MANAGEMENT
December 10, 2009
J. J. Dudash
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie Resources, LLC, Bowie No. 2 Mine
Application for a Technical Revision
Ventilation Shaft Construction
Permit C-1996-083
Dear Mr. Dudash:
DEC 14 2009
Division of Reclamation,
mining and Safety
On behalf of Bowie Resources, LLC, (BRL) enclosed is an application for a technical
revision to provide for the construction of a ventilation shaft west of Terror Creek. The
proposed construction site is on BLM managed land
Project Narrative
The shaft will be raise bored its entire depth of approximately 690 feet. The cuttings
from the raise bore will be permanently stored underground. The shaft is to be lined
with shotcrete and have a finished diameter of 18.5 feet. A ventilation fan is not
required for the shaft since pressure from the mine ventilation system will force air out
the shaft. The shaft will be equipped with an escape hoist and nitrogen generator. The
electrical powered compressors needed to run the nitrogen generator will be fed by an
underground power cable. BRL will need frequent access to the site to test the escape
hoist. The perimeter of the shaft will be grouted to minimize water infiltration. Grouting
will be extensive in the water bearing zones.
Activities necessary for the successful completion of the shaft include the following:
1. Drill and grout perimeter of shaft to seal off water bearing zones and possibly
solidify areas of incompetent rock.
2. Install concrete shaft collar (30'X 30'X 4' thick).
3. Drill 18" diameter pilot hole.
4. Raise bore 20-foot diameter shaft. (cuttings stored underground)
5. Install 9-inch thick shotcrete lining in shaft. (1200 cubic yards of concrete)
6. Install escape hoist.
7. Install nitrogen generator system powered by electrical compressors. Power
from underground.
