The Subgrade was generally firm to hard, one soft
spot was observed in a depression caused by rainwater ponding along a scraper haul route.
Potential ponding features shall be eliminated either by cutting the da,?•nstream slope to promote
flow, or by tilling in the depression and then compacting it to the same degree as the surrounding
area. This method of channel enhancement may also be used to consolidate relatively close
indl\ ideal channels.
Care should be taken to minimize the Cut depth in order to maintain good drainage
throughout the entire length without being too deep at the exit of the drain. FiOure 30 shows the
area near the exit of' the drain. It is very likely that the trench will intersect the massive
sandstone laver. The deeper the trench is at this point, the longer the intercept with the sandstone
%vill be. This sandstone layer IS most likely the cause of the wet area in the base of I lorse Gulch.
The minimal flow of runoff is trapped by the impermeable sandstone. This area may require
Agapito Associates, Inc.
