1 12 APPLICATION PAGE 1 1 OF 35
Topsoiling, mulching, seeding and fertilizing will begin in areas within the permit
boundary which will no longer be disturbed, the applicant may till, mulch, seed
and fertilize these areas.
Also as discussed above, the topsoil will be stripped from areas before surface
disturbance activities occur. The maximum area for topsoil stripping shall be 4
acres.
69 Nature, depth, and thickness of the deposit to be mined and the thickness and type of overburden to be
removed,- and Nature of the stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined in sedimentary
deposits.
Overburden material within the project site is approximately six inches deep. The
top two to six inches of existing topsoil material will be stockpiled and reused for site
reclamation work.
Approximately six feet of sand, gravel and cobble material is located under the
overburden material described above. This material will be extracted and
processed. In general, the upper portion of this lens contains more fine-grained
sand material. Cobbles within the lens are anticipated to range in size up to five
inches in diameter.
Below the sand and gravel lens is weathered silty, clay Mancos Shale, which is
considered bedrock in this portion of Mesa County. Mancos Shale is a dark gray-
to-gray block, thin-bedded to laminated shale with interbeds of siltstone and
sandstone.
(g) Identify the primary and secondary commodities to be mined/extracted and describe the intended use:
The primary commodities are sand and gravel which will be used for construction
materials.
Secondary commodities consist of the overburden soils, which will be used, along
with additional inert imported materials, for backfill to reclaim the project site.
Overburden soil may also be needed for "fines" to produce the road base
materials.
(h) Name and describe the intended use of all expected incidental products to be minedlextracted by the
proposed operation.
Incidental products mined from the site consist of overburden soils which will be
used primarily for site backfill / reclamation. Overburden soil may also be required
for "fines" to produce road base materials.
