Revecetation
The eastern 1 /2 of the permit area is a rangeland post- mining land use. The disturbed area
was reclaimed with this final objective. Much of the reclaimed lands consist of moderate to
steep slopes of various aspects based on location. South - facing areas have always been
sparse with regard to vegetative cover and more prone to rill and gully development.
However, shrubs find these areas suitable and many of the steep south - facing slopes are
shrub- covered with a sparse understory of grasses and forbs.
Two areas of reclamation were completed by the Division during the reclamation liability.
Both of these areas were former sediment ponds and are located immediately adjacent to
County Road 44. Initially, pond 15 -P10 was reclaimed, and followed some 5 -6 years later by
the reclamation of pond 15 -P1. In 2004, a ditch located between the two ponds that diverts
water to a box culvert under CR44, was reshaped and check dams were added. The lower
portion of this ditch has since eroded to the level of the bottom of the box culvert. Another
pond, 15 -1 is located on ranchette property immediately across CR44 from the reclaimed
area of pond 15 -P1. This pond has recently developed a large hole through the
embankment, likely from piping along the outlet tube during a past storm event.
