Site Gearing is performed immediatety prior to sail removal in a given area. Clearing includes removal of •
woody or other matedals which could interfere with soil removal, or potentially contaminate soil. Site
Gearing and soil salvage operations are typically conduced from May to November. These activities maybe
conducted in other months if weather conditions permit.
BaGcfilling and grading activities are performed throughout the year.
Soil redistribution and associated graded spoil suitability determinations follow the same timetable as
salvage operations. if ground conditions permit, soil redistribution may be conducted in months other than
the primary months indicated in the reclamation timetable (Figure 13-1). Tillage and seetlbed preparation
(when necessary), cover cropping, and seeding of resoiled areas is cenduded in the next favorable planting
season after soil redistribution, weather permitting. Therefore, the schetlule for these activities may parallel
the soil redistdbution schedule in many pres. Tree and shrub planting is performed in the fall as tlortnant
plantings, but may be planted in spring on occasion. Tree and shrub planting areas are prepared during
spring, summer, and tali.
Fence construction is generally performed from April to November. Construction is interrupted only by
inclement weather or snowpadr. •
Maintenance and management activities are conducted throughout the year, weather and snowpaGc
conditions permitting. The timing of these activities is dependent upon the specfic activity. Fence
maintenance and removal of any trespass IivestoGc are generally conducted from mid-spring through fall.
Interseeding and any necessary reseeding is conducted in the next favorable planting season following the
decision to interseed or reseed. Erosion monitoring is conducted after snowmelt and heavy rains, with any
required repairs prried out from late spring through fall. Occasionally, the operations outlined above will be
completed during winter months when mild weather persists. Under normal conditions, the schedules are as
presented.
Proiected Reclamation Schedules. The projected baGfilling and grading schedule for the remaining Senep
II life-of-mine is presented on F~ibk 13.2.
The annual projection of areas graded as presented on Exhibit 13-2 is based upon certain basic
consitlerations. First, the baddilling and grading schedule is based upon the operation plan, coal expvation
cyGe times, and pit configuration. •
13-30 Revised 72/01/93
