•
LIGHT USE ROADS
2-32
Light use roads are used within the mine facilities area and are shown on Figure
2.2-2. For the construction of all the roads on site, all vegetation material and topsoil will
be removed from the design road bed, shoulders, and surfaces where associated
structures will be placed. Topsoil will be placed in topsoil stockpile. No vegetation material
or topsoil will be placed beneath or in any road embankment.
The material for the embankment shall be reasonably free of organic material, coal
or coal blossom, frozen materials, wet or peat material, natural soils containing organic
matter or any other material considered unsuitable for use in embankment construction by
the DRMS.
The roads on site will be maintained in accordance with Rule 4.03.3(6). Road
surfaces will be periodically watered and maintained with a motor grader. Ditches along
the roadways will be periodically cleaned with a motor grader and the road shoulders will
be smoothed to conform to the paved surface. Cut and fill sections will be vegetated and
gullies, if any, will be repaired at least annually. If the road is damaged by a catastrophic
event such as a flood or earthquake, it will be repaired as soon as practicable after the
damage has occurred.
Light use road #1 provides access to the material storage area east of the coal
mine waste pile. Light use road #2 is used for sediment pond maintenance and for
access to the topsoil and construction material stockpiles. Light use road #1 is
approximately 25 feet long with an average grade of 0. Light use road #2 is
approximately 2000 feet long with an average grade of 3% and a maximum pitch grade
of 18%.
Light use road #3 provides access to a power meter. Light use road # 3 is
approximately 60-feet long with and average grade of 0%. A 12"diameter culvert will
be placed under light use road #3. It is sized the same as the cross road culvert
located east of light use road #3. There is very little drainage area associated with this
culvert.
Light use roads will be reclaimed by returning the road to its pre-mining contour
configuration.
During November and December 2005, a light use road was constructed along
the north branch of Munger Creek to provide access to a drill hole or holes. The light
use road was located on ridges or on the most stable available slopes to minimize
erosion. The light use road was reclaimed in 2006.
TR-16 M`-Volume 1 (Rev 05/08)
