2-31
Sub-base preparation involved the use of a steel roller on 8"lifts of
material. Water was added in an attempt to maintain optimum moisture content
of 12%. Figure 2.2-5 shows the plan view of the McClane Canyon Haul Road
along with the longitudinal profile. Also shown are three cross- sections which
depict typical cut and fill sections. The side slope for the access/haul road will be
approximately 2 horizontal to 1 vertical in the fill area. Typical cross-sections
along with design specifics for the road ditches are found in Table 4.2-12.
Section C-C of Figure 2.2-5 shows a cliff to the South of the road that
became unstable and was a safety hazard. The upper portion of the cliff was
modified to a gentler slope. The cut necessary to stabilize the slope was a wedge
approximately 150 feet long and 0 to 20 feet wide at the top.
Section D-D of Figure 2.2-5A shows the profile of the small haul
road (Haul Road #2) that will be used to transport coal waste to the coal mine
waste pile as part of TR-16. The average grade of the haul road is
approximately 3.3% and the approximate original contour is nearly the same
surface as the operational surface.
Haul Road maintenance will be conducted continuously. As needed, berms
will be maintained, drainage ditches cleaned, gravel added, and debris removed.
During non-freezing weather, dust suppression will include watering and may
include dust suppressants such as Magnesium Chloride.
TR-16 M`-Volume 1 (Rev 05/08)
