2-23
There will be virtually no impact on the groundwater resources. The
Cameo Seam contains water only in the northeastern portion of the permit area.
The amount of water associated with the Cameo seam is relatively small. Minimal
inflow, averaging less than 2 gallons per minute occurred during the initial permit
terms. The mine inflow encountered in the Main East Entries is consumed by the
mine and averages approximately 7.72 gpm. Detailed analysis of water inflow is
contained in Appendix N which concludes that "For the purposes of projecting
the effect mine discharge will have on East Salt Creek, it will be assumed the
maximum mine flow rate is 100 gpm or 0.22 cfs". The annual reports submitted
to the Division that report hydrologic impacts also give a detailed analysis of
water inflow.
The quality of the surface water should not be degraded by the mining
operations and in fact the salinity of East Salt Creek should be improved with the
addition of runoff from the Coal Mine Waste Pile and mine water runoff. Please
see Appendix N for a full discussion of the effects of the runoff from the Coal
Mine Waste Pile. All run off from the disturbed areas, including grading and road
work pertinent to the mining operation will be diverted to the Sediment Pond or
other alternative sediment control structures per Technical Revision Application
TR-16. Adequate pollution control measures will be applied for the protection of
this resource. (See Section 2.4.1)
TR-16 M`-Volume 1 (Rev 05/08)
