2.05.3(6) Overburden
• A typical pit is ninety feet wide and extends from
outcrop to outcrop or outcrop to property line. The length of
the pits will vary from 300 to 2,100 feet. Refer to the Mine
Plan Map, Drawing No. 115 for the location and dimensions of the
pits.
Spoil and overburden from the first pit in Area 1 and
the first pit in Area 2 will be excavated and placed off the coal
in temporary spoil piles 1 and 2 respectively. After the removal
of all recoverable coal from the first pit, the overburden and
other spoil material from the second pit will be backfilled into
the first pit. Spoil from the temporary spoil piles will be
placed in the last pit in the respective mining area.
The following table shows the spoil and void volume for
each pit assuming a 1.3 swell factor. The void volume is the
volume of coal and overburden removed from the pit less the
amount of topsoil that will be replaced on the pit. The spoil
volume is the amount of overburden less topsoil, multiplied by a
1.3 swell factor.
MINING AREA NO. 1 MINING AREA NO. 2
PIT VOID SPOIL PIT VOID SPOIL
1 38000 35533 1 18792 19608
• 2 84500 82767 2 41584 45716
3 93000 94033 3 63375 67492
4 99000 99667 4 80667 87100
5 111000 115267 5 82667 86883
6 110000 113533 6 112958 120792
7 97000 96633 7 114958 123392
8 86000 82333 8 135750 136825
9 78000 71933 9 133750 147225
10 69000 59692 10 133750 140725
11 80000 73992 11 136750 153617
12 86000 80492 12 141750 153508
13 121333 112980 13 147250 154808
14 62500 58717 14 140250 150692
15 61000 56225 15 145750 154375
16 59000 53625 16 144750 154375
17 71000 62942 17 146250 156975
18 72000 64242 18 158750 156975
19 71500 63808 19 148042 155567
20 31000 27625 20 148042 155675
• 2-05-11 May 1991
