2.05.3(4) Ponds, Impoundments and Diversions
(a)(i) The Sedimentation Control Maps, Drawing Nos. 117 & 127, show the
location of the sedimentation ponds, the collection ditches and drainage areas. Ponds
A and B and three collection ditches provide sedimentation control for Mining Area 1.
Ponds D and E and two collection ditches were to provide sedimentation control for
Mining Area 2. Pond C is no longer required, see Exhibit 9 page 9-6. Mining Area 3
requires one sediment pond, pond F, and four collection ditches. Mining Areas 2 and 3
were not developed so ponds D, E and F were not be constructed.
Detailed design information for the sedimentation ponds, spillways, inlet
channels, collection ditches and dewatering devices is included in Exhibit 9. Drawing
Nos. 117A - 117E and 128 show detailed plan and section views of each pond,
spillway, inlet channel and collection ditch.
The remaining discussion will only address ponds A and B since they are
the only ponds constructed.
Pond A and B are temporary impoundments. The impoundments will be
left in place until the disturbed area is reclaimed and it is demonstrated that the
requirements of 4.05.2(2) are met.
• A soil loss demonstration for the reclaimed disturbed area is incorporated on
pages 2.05-8iv-8vii and demonstrates compliance with Rule 4.05.2(2). The
demonstration shows the reclaimed area will contribute less suspended solids to stream
flow or runoff outside the permit area as compared to untreated drainage from the
natural surrounding premining area. A map of the baseline and revegetated areas is
shown on page 2.05-8vii.
(A) The sedimentation control plan was prepared under the
direction of James E. Stover, P.E., Colorado Registration No. 19230.
(B) The location of the sedimentation control features is shown
on Drawing Nos. 117 and 127. Cross sections of the sedimentation control features are
shown on Drawing Nos. 117A -117E and 128.
(C) The preliminary hydrologic and geologic information required
to assess the hydrologic impact of the structures is contained in Exhibit 9.
(D) Not applicable.
(E) All detailed design information is included.
(b) The sediment level in the ponds will be monitored on a quarterly basis and
noted on the quarterly pond inspection reports required under Rule 4.05.9(14).
