5. Water Consumption for the Operation
Two 4000 gallon water trucks are permanently located on site and are used approximately 8 hrs
per day, 5 days per week, 30 weeks per year. Each truck uses a full load every 2 hours, therefore,
the total consumptive use is 4,800,000 gallons per year or 14.73 acre feet.
The crushing and screening plant uses 8000 gallons per day and operates 5 days per week and 3
months per year. This is 480,000 gallons per year or 1.47 acre feet.
No washing of gravel is conducted at this site.
Two water wells and an irrigation ditch exist near the permit property. All were installed long
before the area was originally permitted. The landowner states that they are "good" wells with
high production and clean water. These water sources will be used to provide the operational
water as wells as provide the water to irrigate the field. The landowner has water rights for this
use as well as irrigating the existing fields to the west. The water rights can be seen in the lease
agreement in Appendix A. The wells and ditch are expected to be unaffected by the continued
excavation. The currently mined area had no effect on the water and is the closest mining area to
the wells.
Cugnini Pit, November 2009 G-2
