Tierra Piedra Ranch LLC
Tierra Piedra Gravel Pit
EXHIBIT "C"-MINING PLAN
a. It is anticipated that mining will commence in April or May of 2009. It will be an
intermittent operation as it will provide construction materials as needed for local
projects. Pursuant to Section 34-32.5-103(11)(b), C.R.S., operations at this gravel
pit will resume within at least one year from a date of temporary cessation. In
addition, the affected lands will likely be used for gravel pit operations less than
180 days per year.
b. The estimated depth to which soil, suitable as a plant growth medium, will be
salvaged for use is 2.5 feet. Two test pits in this area confirm topsoil depth.
Topsoil to be stripped, salvaged, and stockpiled along pit perimeters (at top of
slope) where shoreline of reclaimed pond is to be located. The bulk of stockpiled
topsoil will then be transported to other locations on the ranch and reapplied
immediately. The remaining stockpiled topsoil to be utilized for reclamation will
be seeded with mix recommended by MRCS. Stockpiles will have a maximum
slope of 1:l and will be stabilized against erosion as necessary. There may be
some very temporary stockpiles of topsoil at various convenient locations along
road, on the floor of the pit, and in the processing area.
c. Overburden is minimal. All material below topsoil to be mined and processed.
There will be no stockpiles of waste rock or overburden.
d. The thickness of the deposit to be mined is approximately 30 feet.
e. Major components of the mining operation are an access road, gravel pit, and
processing facilities (crusher and screener). Processing facilities to be located
outside of gravel pit at southern portion of project area. No offices or buildings
will be installed for this operation.
f. The project area is 6.4 acres (including new access road). The excavated gravel
pit is 4.8 acres. There will be no mine benches or impoundments. Excavation
will commence at northwestern side of pit and work southeasterly. Stockpiles of
excavated material will be located at southern end of project area.
g. Existing and proposed roads will have a 10-12' running surface with 6-10" of 3"
minus gravel. Specifications of existing and new roads are determined by
Archuleta County standards, as this project must receive county approval.
Stormwater BMPs will be installed along new access road and along excavations.
h. Water for this project will be obtained from the Tierra Piedra River via water
rights of the landowners. Water will be used for occasional watering of haul
roads and ramp areas. It is estimated that 1000-2000 gallons of water per day
may be utilized.
i. Groundwater will be encountered while excavating the gravel pit. Excavation
will generally be "wet" with backhoe or other method of extracting material from
at or below the water level. Minimal dewatering is anticipated, due to expected
infiltration capacity of remaining materials. When de-watering becomes
necessary, pumps will remove excess water from the pit. This water will be used
for irrigation of the adjacent hay field.
