amec
Earth & Environmental
E) Slope Contouring
1) VLF
Slope contouring was performed between stations A27+00 (+/-) and A30+00 (+/-),
approximately 150 to 250 feet right of centerline and between stations J5+00 (+/-) and J9+00
(+/-) 0 to 300 feet right of centerline. Contouring was performed using various CAT dozers.
Material generated as the cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
F) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill areas and hauled to the
overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road between stations A28+00 (+/-) to
A36+00 (+/-).
G) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a CAT 385 excavator excavated
structural fill material from between stations H13+00 (+/-) and H30+00 (+/-), approximately
30 to 250 left of centerline. The structural fill material was loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks.
Prior to structural fill placement, during periods of time when ambient temperatures were
below 32°F, fill areas were prepared and worked to bring the existing fill to or above 36°F.
Ambient and fill temperatures were monitored on an hourly basis, by an AMEC representative.
Fill temperatures averaged approximately 43°F during the period of time the ambient
temperature was below 32°F.
Structural fill material was placed in the following areas: between stations A0+00 (+/-); A2+00
(+/-); E20+00 (+/-); and E23+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 75 feet left of the "E" centerline;
between stations A40+00 (+/-) and A44+50 (+/-), approximately 25 to 75 feet right of
centerline; between stations A51+00 (+/-) and A58+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 150 feet
right of centerline; between stations J8+00 (+/-) and J13+00 (+/-), approximately 150 to 200
feet right of centerline; and between stations K4+50 (+/-) and K10+00 (+/-), approximately 50
to 100 feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was spread using various CAT dozers
in 18" to 24" lifts. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when
necessary) and compacted using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the
entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations A6+00 (+/-) and A8+50 (+/-),
approximately 50 feet left of centerline to 30 feet right of centerline and between stations
J26+00 (+/-) and J27+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline using two track
mounted drill rigs. Blasting was performed in this area on Thursday (10/1/2009).
Structural fill material (processed ore) was pushed toward the southeast corner Phase IV VLF
to be placed as fill later. This was performed using a CAT D-8 dozer.
VLF Weekly Report WE 10.03.09.D.doc
