Rimrock Exploration & Development, Inc.
J-Bird Uranium Mine/ DMO/ EPP Wildlife Protection
18.0 WILDLIFE PROTECTION
Measures to minimize and prevent harm or damage to wildlife species are addressed
specifically in the BLM's Conditions of Approval of the Plan of Operations for the J-Bird
Mine. Those measures are as follows:
• In the future, if water depletions associated with mining activities exceed 0.2 acre
feet per year evaluated in this document, BLM will be notified so that further
water depletion payments, or consultation with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service can
be initiated.
• If, in the future, additional effects on species listed under the Endangered Species
Act are evident, consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may be
reopened.
• If the Mine is to be inactive for more than one year, the portal will be closed in a
manner sufficient to prevent colonization by bats. Closure of the mine opening
during reclamation will consist of a "permanent" closure, the design of which will
be developed in cooperation with DRMS and BLM. Temporary and "permanent"
closures should be installed in such a manner so as not to entomb any stray bats
that may have entered the workings, i.e. using netting that allows exit, but not re-
entry during a 24hr period.
In addition, as described in the reclamation plan, the Mine will be reclaimed at closure.
Reclamation will consist of revegetation of disturbed areas.
29
