III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Eagle Mines C-1981-044
17 Sept 2009
Pg2/2
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - Sediment Ponds 9-P7 and 9-P8, by the old B&S building,
were both dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankments were all well
vegetated and stable and there were no signs of erosion.
- Sediment Ponds SH-P1 and SH-P2, by the old farm shop (just above the 5A portals),
were both dry at the time of the inspection. Both embankments were well
vegetated and appeared to be stable. No erosional problems were noted on either
pond embankment.
- Sediment Pond 5A-PI, just below the 5A portals, was dry at the time of the
inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable.
No erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection. The ditch from the 100,000 gallon water tank above the portal bench
was also dry and appeared to be stable as well.
- Sediment Ponds 9-P1 and 9-P6, by the solid waste disposal area, were both dry at
the time of the inspection. These ponds collect the runoff from the solid waste
disposal area and the adjacent reclaimed refuse pile. Both pond embankments
were well vegetated and appeared to be stable. No erosional problems were noted
on either pond embankments.
Backfilling and Grading: - The backfilled #4 Mine portal remains stable. There is no
noticeable settling or cracking of the backfill. There were no erosional problems
noted on the backfilled slope.
- The solid waste disposal area also remains stable. There was no settling noticed in
the fill material (which is covering demolition debris) and no erosional problems were
noted.
Processing Waste: - The refuse pile by the solid waste disposal area has been
covered, topsoiled and reseeded. The area is well graded and drains to the
adjacent sediment ponds (9-P1 and 9-P6). There was no standing water on the pile
and no erosional problems were noted.
- The refuse pile west of the reclaimed pile was stable. There was no water pooling
on the surface at the time of the inspection. This pile has a fair amount of weeds
growing on it from the years of inactivity. The pile will remain open for possible future
use.
Revegetation: - The reseeded #4 Mine portal has a pretty good stand of grasses on it.
The vegetation has been enough to control erosion from the slope.
- The reseeded solid waste disposal area is doing well. The area is now covered with
grasses and it is beginning to blend in nicely with the surrounding areas.
- There was some grass beginning to grow on the reseeded refuse pile by the solid
waste disposal area. This area was seeded this spring and benefited from the wet
spring and early summer.
This concludes the 17 September 2009 Inspection report for the Eagle Mine.
