This letter explains
the operations and depletions associated with the 4.5 acres of free water surface (FWS) exposed by the
gravel mine, replacement sources and monthly proposed accounting. Also enclosed is a gravel pit well
permit. Enclosed is a check for $1,443 ($100 for the well permit and $1,343 for the SWSP) to cover all
fees.
This SWSP requested covers operations from the January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.
Description of Mining Operations
Mining operations at the Logan Sand & Gravel Mine commenced in 1996 pursuant to a Division of Mines
and Geology (DMG) permit M-1996-050). Since that time the mine has produced nominal amount of
aggregate via wet mining, resulting in a mine with exposed FWS of 4.5 acres. Figure 1, enclosed, shows
the location of the aggregate mine and the 2009 mining operations and future 2010 mining operations.
There is no concrete batching and all aggregate is sold as pit run aggregate without washing or aggregate
separation.
In 2009 - 2010 it is anticipated that the mine will produce 50,000 tons of aggregate.
Consumptive Use of Mining Operations
The consumptive use attributed to the Logan Sand & Gravel aggregate mine is evaporation from 4.5 acres
of FWS via wet mining. There is no de-watering associated with this mining operation. In addition to the
aggregate production, water will be required for on-site dust suppression. The water used in the batch
plant will be produced from water pumped from the open mine. All uses are considered 100 percent
consumptive. The evaporative depletions for all exposed ground water totaling 9.95 acres is estimated
from the gross pan evaporation of 72 inches and effective precipitation of 10.58 inches, and compares
with the recently decreed net evaporation decreed in the Logan Well Users Decree 03CW 195.
Water Rights • Hydrology • Hydraulics • Water Quality
E:\L.eat\Reese\Engineering\Correspondence\Reese Pit 09-10 SWSP Renewal Q 09 09 023.doc
1
