MORGAN SAND AND GRAVEL, INC.
21215 HWY. 52
FORT MORGAN, CO 80701
970-867-8074
PLANT 3 MILES NORTH OF FORT MORGAN ON HIGHWAY 52
3. Erosion has exposed material
The area Michael shows in the pictures was placed there over 25 years ago. When it was
striped off and placed it was reseeded It is one of four topsoil piles that are around the
pit.( The topsoil is not placed outside the permit area) All 40 acres are included in the
permit.
All the metal that was exposed has been removed. It has been transported to Andersons
Salvage yard in Greeley, CO. It will be recycled.
4. Dam failed.
The dam was earth made with the amount of rainwater we had there was no way to stop
what happened. The dam held the average rainfall with out failing for the last 8 years.
What we would like to do to solve this problem:
# A: Install a silt fence on South Property line.
# B: Use straw bales that are 4'X4'X8' and place them every 80 feet. This would retain
all silt, and allow water would pass through. We would place 5 different sets of straw
bales in the natural waterway runoff. This would be enough so that all sediment is
retained.
# C. To make sure all sediment is retained a small hole will be dug on waterside of straw
bales.
5: Storm water is being detained.
With the amount of rainfall, that we had in 3 weeks (27 inches). There has been maybe 2
years in the last 30 years that any water was standing in the pit. With the average rainfall
around 5-6inches. Therefore, I do not see the need for a water discharge permit. If the
Mined Land Reclamation Board thinks one is needed then Morgan Sand & Gravel will
file for one.
S' rely,
Greg Westhoff
President
Morgan Sand and Gravel, Inc.
