This has been a very rainy year in Morgan County. We have had over 27 inches of
rainfall in the pit in June and the first part of July. Most of the gullies were from a storm
the night of July 2. (Seven inches of rain in 20 minutes.) This is the night that the Dam
broke and most of the gullies were formed. This all happened three weeks before the
inspection.
(In response to all problems and actions to be taken.)
1. Concrete stored in the pit.
The concrete is not concrete but is sandstone from the floor of the pit. It was too big to
run through the crusher we had at that time. It will be crushed within the next year.
2. Sediment is being transported of site thru gullies.
The grass where the gullies formed was about (two- three feet ) tall. That should have
slowed normal run off so that gullies would not have happened. With 27 inches of rain 7
inches in one night that will happen, not much could have been done to stop what
happened.
The gullies have been filled in with top soil, reseeded with grass seed, straw bales have
been placed to slow runoff down.
