3.2 TT4 and TT6
The identified bare areas on the slope of TT5 and TT6 and the top north-east portion of TT4 will
be addressed through placement of material cover. The selected material cover will be placed
at 8 to 12 inches thick over the identified areas, and revegetated with the Telluride RAP seed
mix or an alternative seed mixture developed for wetter locations. A source for imported cover
material will be investigated. Providing imported materials are identified, the materials locations
and soil qualities will be investigated. No geochemical or agronomic testing will be conducted
for these imported materials. If no readily available source is located, soil from the Idarado
Legacy Project stockpile will be evaluated to determine its suitability for use as material cover.
If the Idarado Legacy Project stockpile material is used, appropriate notification and permitting
arrangements will be completed with the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(CDRMS) and the material will be characterized for lead and zinc concentrations using x-ray
fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) analysis at a rate of 1 measurement for every 250 cubic yards
of material, in accordance with EPA Method 6200, Field Portable X-Ray Fluorescence
Spectrometry for the Determination of Elemental Concentrations in Soil and Sediment, January
1998. Soil samples will be collected at a rate of 1 for every 5 XRF measurements (20%) for
laboratory confirmation and correlation with XRF measurements. Material samples collected
will be analyzed for total lead and zinc concentrations, as well as for plant nutrient testing to
determine the required fertilizer application rate for revegetation.
3.3 Borrow Areas
The use of the Barstow borrow area will be coordinated with the U.S. Forest Service Delta
Office and from past experiences will not require revegetation after material has been removed.
Slopes within the borrow area will be stabilized after rock has been sourced. If the Idarado
Legacy Project stockpile materials are used on TT4, TT5 and TT6, the remaining stockpile will
be graded to stable conditions, and revegetated using the previous seed mix used on the
stockpile as required by permitting or other conditions agreed by CDRMS.
4.0 SCHEDULE
The remediation work will begin in October 2009, upon approval by the CDPHE.
July 31, 2009 2
