June 19, 2007
Mr. Scott Wanstedt ~?+
Blue Mountain Energy, Inc.
3607 County Road #65
Rangely, CO 81648
RE: Technical Revision No. 64 (TR-64), B-Vent Shaft #2
Deserado Mine (Permit C-1981-018)
Dear Mr. Wanstedt:
We have completed our adequacy review of the materials for the 13-ventilation shaft (TR-64) proposed at
the Deserado Mine. Please respond to the following adequacy issues, as necessary.
Cultural resources information was not submitted with the revised materials, indicating a cultural
resource survey may have been previously completed for a large portion of the permit area.
Review of the currently approved permit application package (PAP) in Section II does include
considerable information regarding previous surveys. Cultural Resources Map 3 is a confidential
map. The Division cannot locate a copy Map 3 or any other map that would show those areas
previously surveyed. Please direct the Division to the survey, map, or specific location
information by township, range, and section that demonstrates that the proposed disturbed areas
(road and pad sites) have been cleared by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) regarding
cultural resources.
Two general SAE demonstrations exist in the currently approved PAP for ventilation pad sites
under what appears to be an "immature" and "mature" condition regarding vegetation. Are these
demonstrations applicable to the activities proposed under TR-64?
We request your written responses and amendments by June 30, 2007, if possible. Please contact me if you
have questions.
Sincerely,
Kent Go
Environmental Protection Specialist 11
