1 12 APPLICATION PAGE 7 OF 35
•
•
6.4.4 EXHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
(a) Descriptions of the methods of mining to be employed in each stage of the operations as related to the
surface disturbance on affected lands;
The proposed sand and gravel mining pit properties consists of four properties totaling
approximately 82.765 acres in size, and are irregularly shaped properties. The total
permit area will include 34.34 acres for all mining operations. The mining area will
include 30.25 acres for excavation of sand and gravel. All mining sand and gravel
operations including topsoil stockpiles, overburden stockpiles, water settling ponds, and
material processing will occur within the 30.25 acres. The permitted 34.34 acres allows
for buffer areas to be road construction and maintenance, drainage pipe installation,
temporary topsoil stockpiles, and temporary overburden stockpiles. Temporary
disturbances will include 0.19 acres to construct the access road and 0.04 acres or
(1,800 square feet for drainage pipe installation. All other access roads are currently
located on the site and will not require improvements. No other improvements are
anticipated outside the mining area.
The sand and gravel will be progressively mined across the permit area using open pit
mining techniques. Removal of overburden and mining for sand and gravel at the
highwall area will be required at a 3:1 slope. The mined areas along the perimeter of
the reclamation ponds will be set to final grade and backfilled using overburden from
the next mined area and imported inert fill where necessary to achieve final grades.
As the backfill material is placed near final grade, the areas will be prepared for site
reclamation.
The mining operations will utilize standard heavy construction equipment during the
sand and gravel mining operation. This includes equipment such as trackhoe
excavators, front-end loaders, scrapers, graders, compactors, water trucks, dump
trucks, rock crushers, conveyors, etc. The sand and gravel material will be crushed,
screened, and stockpiled at the permit site. The operations will not be producing
"washed" rock products.
A portable scale facility will be located near the access of the site to track materials
removed from the project site.
Surface disturbance activities and disturbed areas are listed below:
ACTIVITY MA)
Access Roads
Installation of outlet pipes
Scales
Topsoil Stripping
Process Equipment (In Topsoil Stripped Area)
Material Stockpiles (In Topsoil Stripped Area)
;.
