Rimrock Exploration & Development, Inc.
J-Bird Uranium Mine/ DMO/ EPP Surface Water Quality Data
11.0 SURFACE WATER QUALITY DATA
Figure 1 illustrates regional hydrology in-relation to the Mine. There are historical
uranium mine sites within one mile of the J-Bird Mine. LaSal Creek is one-half mile and
the Dolores River is six miles from the Mine. No perennial water resources exist within
the projected disturbance area. Ephemeral drainages generally discharge toward LaSal
Creek. There are several dry washes and intermittent stream channels throughout the
disturbance area. Surface water flows only in response to significant precipitation events,
the majority of which occur during the summer monsoon season. Snowmelt may be a
contributing component to surface water flow. As previously mentioned in this section,
the SWMP has been developed with appropriate surface water controls to manage storm
events as defined by DRMS. BLM Uncompahgre Field Office completed an EA in
November 2006, prior to project start-up. Following is a table indicating the existing
surface water receiving stream standards. This table was copied from the BLM UFO EA,
2006.
Table 2-
('nlnrarln Ctra?m rho eai??nn+i r?.,o*
Stream Segment Stream Classification
LaSal Creek Aquatic Life Cold 1
Recreation 1 a
Water Supply
Agriculture
Dolores River Aquatic Life Warm 1
Recreation 1 a
Agriculture
.,.... v,Viauv Lcyaruucui vi ruouc Wean ana t nvnonment, water tlualtty Control Commission, Reg. #35,
Classifications and Numeric Standards for Gunnison and Lower Dolores River Basins.
Within the Nov. 2006 EA, Affected Environment/ Environmental Consequences and
Mitigation Measures are addressed. Those components related to surface water are
identified below:
No Aquatic Habitats on the mine site or close enough to be impacted by activity
on the site.
• No Flood Plains
No Wetlands or Riparian Zones
• No Wild and Scenic Rivers
• No Wilderness Areas
• No Seeps or Springs Reported with-in 2.5 miles of project area
17
