General Mine Plan Compliance
The operator is currently longwall mining in Panel El near crosscut 58 and has completed mining of
approximately V, of the panel length or about 4500 feet, moving generally in an cast to west direction.
Development mining continues in Panel E2. Coal market conditions have slowed mining progress
somewhat within the last 6-12 months.
Subsidence
Mining within the E seam in the South of Divide (SOD) area will result in subsidence of roads, stock
ponds, streams and ditches, buildings, rock cliffs and other features such as wells, flumes, and road
culverts. A prescriptive plan for monitoring of these various features is detailed in pages 2.05-107
through pages 2.05-184 of the approved permit. At the present time, few features have been
undermined. As mining progresses into panels E2.and E3, many more structures and hydrologic
features will undergo subsidence.
The vast majority of land is covered in a dense vegetative cover of oakbrush, chokecherry and service
berry in addition to large areas of aspen and coniferous trees, making identification of potential
subsidence impacts at the surface difficult, especially during the summer months. On this day, the
ground inspection began above the eastern portion of Panel El, looking generally to the west,as shown
in the photograph below.
s
Methane degas wells Possible stockpond
4
