//I. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety( DBMS). Doug Nolte of Mountain Coal Company represented the operator. Ground
conditions were dry and the weather was clear and warm. The primary purpose of the inspection was
to discuss and review on-the-ground subsidence monitoring measures as required by the approved
permit.
Shims and Markers
Due to the inherent dangers resulting primarily from rockfall, the operator is required to post sips
along key sections of roads, especially those roads on Forest Service lands that may be used by the
public. The operator has posted signs like the one shown below,to warn travelers of potential hazards
due to rockfall and/or cracking of the road surface. This sign was located in the Sylvester Gulch
watershed. Additional signs like this one are required along the Dry Fork drainage in the future as
longwall mining progresses into the South of Divide watershed in panels E2-E9. Pages 2.05-1 I8 and
2.05-149 of the approved permit discuss requirements with regard to road monitoring and signage.
Roads and trails arc shown on Maps 67 and 68 of the approved permit.
, ITTIMARNING -
ENTERING AN AREA THAT NAS
BEEN MINED UNDER
WATCH OUT fOR FALLING ROCKS
BUD MAY BE CRACKED
OR DISPLACED
TRAVEL WITH CAUTION
. -
E Y
3
