Riprap and sediment traps - Riprap and sediment traps may be used at discharge points, due
to the potential for high velocities.
Perimeter sediment control - A perimeter sediment control system will be used adjacent to
wetlands or other waterways where adjacent mining areas have the potential to drain to these
waterways and deposit sediment or other pollutants. A perimeter sediment control system will
also be used in areas where adjacent mining areas have the potential to drain off-site and
deposit sediment or other pollutants. The perimeter sediment control system may include silt
fence, soil berms/swales, straw bales/logs or other structural practices.
Surface roughening - During final reclamation, surface roughening of slopes may be
performed. Surface roughening may include driving equipment across the surface of slopes
so that the soil surface has numerous divots and depressions to slow and capture stormwater
runoff.
Hall Irwin may also employ the following non-structural site management practices.
• Existing vegetation will be preserved where possible.
• Seeding and mulching - stockpiles left in place for more than six months will be seeded with a
dryland grass seed mix to stabilize the side slopes.
• Good Housekeeping - Routine removal of trash and debris will be performed.
• Routine Inspections - Observations of the storm water management program for the site will
be performed at a minimum of every 14 days and after a major precipitation event as required
by the permit. Any deficiencies noted during the inspection will be corrected within 7 days.
The inspections will be reported on an inspection log and will be included in the SWMP binder
for the project.
Identification of Discharges other than Stormwater
Site conditions will dictate when/which control measure will be used. This plan will be revised as
necessary to address varying site conditions and to resolve any issues that are identified through
routine site inspections.
SWMP Administrator- Jim McFarland, of Hall Irwin will be responsible for implementing the SWMP
as well as maintaining and revising the SWMP. The goal of the SWMP is to improve water quality by
reducing pollutants in stormwater discharges.
D:\Adobe\Bestway Concrete\Rocky Flats\Updated Slormwater Management Plan 09.doc
Hall-Irwin Corporation's Church McKay -3- July 2008
Stormwater Management Plan
