My
previous experience with the gravel pit adjacent to me tells me that they could pump
water out of this pit for as long as they want since there is no time limit placed on these
operations. These are the main reasons I am against this permit approval.
I am presently adjacent to a mining operation that went on for 12 years. Ten of those
years there was no mining just the continual pumping of the water out of the pit, which
was sent to the Poudre River. Your office was contacted three times and asked why this
wasteful operation was allowed to continue when no mining was being done. I guess the
water was being pumped out so that they could lease the bottom of the pit to a contractor
to store their vehicles. There was no concern for the local environment, and while this
was going on my well for my property was being affected negatively.
For the last two years the pump at the pit adjacent to my property has been removed and
the water has come back to a level much lower than it was 14 years ago. We do not need
another gravel pit pumping water out of the same aquifer and lowering the water table
even more that it is now. It is my opinion that the environmental damage may never be
corrected. The test conducted this spring on our well has shown that the well has not
recovered which I attribute to 10 years of wasteful pumping of the groundwater and
complete disregard for the environment and the neighbors in the area. As Secretary of
the Interior Ken Salazar implies it is time to rethink.
Sincerely yo s,
z,
William Rodma
