Access Road SA extends from the lower parking lot up to the portal
bench where the warehouse and shop are located. The length of the road is
approximately 1550'. Access Road 1 begins on the upper mine bench, where it joins
with Access Road lA, and extends to the top of the Roadside South Refuse Disposal
Area (RSRDA). The length of the road is approximately 420'.
Design and Construction -Access Road lA will be constructed in 2007 as part of
Permit Revision 3. The grade on the road averages 10% and will be sloped .5% toward
the borrow ditch. The width of this road is approxmately 20' wide. The grade on
Access Road 1 from the portal bench to the top of RSRDA is 11 %. The width of the
Access Road 1 is approximately 20' wide. These roads will be used to gain access to the
shop, warehouse and supply yard.
Drainage -Drainage control for these roads are induded in the RSS operations area
drainage system. Runoff from the parking lot flows to a benn on the west side of the
parking lot and is directed to Pond 8. Runoff from Access Road lA is pid<ed up by a
ditch along the inside edge of the road and then directed to the berm along the lower
parking lot. Runoff from the top of the RSRDA is allowed to sheet flow for
approximately 165' distance to a berm where it is directed to the side ditch of Access
Road #1 and eventually to the North Colledion Ditch which is then directed to Pond 8.
Design for the RSS drainage is given in Appendix 13-2.
Surfacing -The roadbase across the parking lot is unknown, but the surface has been
paved with an estimated 4-6" of bituminous asphalt. Access road #lA will be plated
with gravel and there will not be acid-forming ortoxic-forming substances used in the
road surfacing. Access Road 1 has 4-18" of "red dog" gravel for the roadbase and 3/a
roadbase gravel on the surface.
Maintenance -The graveled portion of the roads will be watered occasionally during
the summer and graded as necessary.
PR-3
T13-2-6
Rev 04/07
