since water level fluctuations are the smallest then. The triannual frequency has been previously
approved by the CDMG for SCC's Seneca II and Yoast Mines. This triannual frequency is still
sufficient to determine both seasonal and year-to-year water level fluctuations.
Permit Revision No. 3 Changes
Permit Revision No. 3, which was submitted in 2002, deals with the mining of the Sage Creek and
Wolf Creek coal seams in the II-W South Expansion area. No changes on the Surface Water portion
of Table 1 were made. In the Springs portion of Table 1, Spring S-49 was deleted since that spring
was mined out in 2001. In addition, Spring S-41, located in the northeast quarter of Section 22, has
been removed from the monitoring program since it no longer exists after mining in that area in 1998.
Also, three spoil springs located in the north and central mining areas have been added to the
monitoring program.
Five new wells have been added to the monitoring program. These wells are WSOV-24 (Sage Creek
coal overburden), WSC-24 (Sage Creek coal), WWCOV-24 (Wolf Creek coal overburden), WWC-24
(Wolf Creek coal), and WWCU-24 (Wolf Creek coal underburden). The wells were drilled and
completed in August and September of 2001. The five wells will be monitored for water levels and
quality once per calendar quarter until the second quarter of 2002, at which time they will be
monitored per the sequences stated in Table 1.
2005 Technical Revision 52 Changes
Technical Revision 52, submitted in 2005, deals with changes to the hydrological monitoring program.
In this appendix, Table 1, monitoring at Site SW-S2W-SG17 will be discontinued. It was the baseline
site for Pond 017, which is now built. Monitoring at Site SW-S2W-SG7 will be changed from monthly
to triannual.
In the Springs section of Table 1, monitoring at S-5 (Pond 006 basin) will be discontinued. This
"spring" is actually an ephemeral stream channel. Since 1983, flow has been observed only three
times at this site.
Monitoring at Spring S-1 (Pond 009 basin) will also be discontinued. This "spring" is also an
ephemeral stream channel. Water quality data provided in 2004 Seneca II-W AHR (pgs. E-105 and
E-106) indicate that mining has had very little impact on this stream. Electrical conductivity values
peaked in 1998 (1060 NS) and have decreased since then. Total dissolved solids values peaked in
1997 (680 mg/I) and have decreased since then.
Monitoring at Spring S-45 (Olson Ranch) will also be discontinued. This "spring" is actually a three-
foot diameter culvert clearwell placed in the alluvium of Dry Creek. Since a well was drilled on the
Olson Ranch in 1980, this "spring" has never been put to use.
TR-58 15-3a-2 Revised 04/07
