Introduction
The following Hydrologic Monitoring Program was initiated on December 10, 1999 at the Seneca II-W
Mine upon approval of the II-W South Expansion Permit Revision No. 2. This program is similar to
the previous monitoring program (see Appendix 15-3). Changes to that program are discussed
below.
Surface Water
Site FG5 is located on Sage Creek upstream of both the Seneca II-W and SCC's Yoast Mine.
Monitoring at this site will be deleted from this permit but will be retained at the Yoast Mine.
Site CGI is located downstream of the proposed Pond 015 (Sage Creek tributary). Monitoring was
dropped here in 1986, but will now be resumed.
Site SG16 is located at the proposed Pond 016 (Hubberson Gulch tributary) site. Site SG17 is
located at the proposed Pond 017 (Hubberson Gulch) site. Site SG9 is located on Hubberson Gulch
upstream on Pond 017. These new sites will be added to the monitoring program.
NPDES monitoring frequencies have been changed from monthly to weekly as a result of a proposed
change to the NPDES permit (Appendix 15-4). Monitoring will remain at a weekly basis until the
NPDES permit is amended.
Springs
Springs S-7 and S-46 were included in the original 1979 spring survey. Monitoring of those springs
will be resumed. Springs S-47, S-48, and S-49 were discovered after that survey and have been
voluntarily monitored. These three springs will now included in the monitoring program.
Ground Water
Wells USGS Al, A3, A8 and A12 exist in the Sage Creek alluvium at the Yoast Mine area (upstream
from Seneca II-W). As those four wells are part of the Yoast monitoring program (referred to as
YSAL1, 3, 8, and 12), they will be dropped from the Seneca II-W monitoring program.
Wells 4W, 40V1, 4WC, and 40V2 were all part of the original Seneca II-W monitoring program and
were discontinued in 1986. Monitoring at those four wells has been resumed.
Water level monitoring at most Seneca II-W wells is five times a year (February/March, April/May,
June/July, August/September, and October/November). Water level monitoring frequencies at these
wells will be changed to triannually (May/June, August, and October/November). Monitoring during
the winter will be dropped due to inaccessibility and
15-3a-1 Revised 01/02
