•
•
•
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project
Quality Assurance Monitoring and Test Results
Load Out Bin Relocation
July 7, 2009
ameO
The SF Atterberg limits testing frequency (approximately one test per 1,000 cubic yards)
exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of one test per 50,000 cubic yards. The
plasticity index of the SF varied from 16 to 23 and met project specifications. Atterberg limit test
results for SF are presented in Appendix H-1 and summarized in Table 5.
4.1.4 Proctor Compaction Tests
AMEC performed standard Proctor compaction tests of SLF in order to compare in-place
densities and moisture contents with laboratory determined values of maximum dry density and
optimum moisture content. AMEC performed 2 CQA Standard Proctor compaction tests of SLF.
The testing frequency (approximately one test per 623 cubic yards) exceeded the minimum
specified testing frequency of one test per 5,000 cubic yards. The SLF compaction test results
are presented in Appendix H-2 and summarized in Table 6. CQC Proctor tests were not
included in the Proctor testing frequency.
4.1.5 Permeability Tests
At the direction of AMEC, a permeability test of SLF material was completed by Knight Piesold.
The testing frequency (approximately one test per 1,245 cubic yards) exceeded the minimum
specified testing frequency of one test per 5,000 cubic yards. Testing was performed with a
flexible-wall permeameter with back-pressure saturation and a constant rate of flow
(ASTM D5084, Method D). The SLF was remolded to 95% of the maximum dry density (ASTM
D698) and the optimum moisture content. Laboratory testing yielded a coefficient of
permeability for the CQA sample of 3.7 x 10-7cm/sec, which is less than the specified maximum
permeability of 1 x 10-6 cm/sec. The permeability test results for the SLF are presented in
Appendix H-3.
4.2 Field Testing and Monitoring
AMEC observed all fill operations in the LOB construction to verify, when necessary, lift
thickness, adequate compaction, and acceptable moisture conditions. When AMEC performed
nuclear density testing, holes made in the fill during testing were filled by tamping fine SLF
material into the holes. AMEC standardized nuclear gauges at the start of each day's work
according to ASTM D2922.
4.2.1 Underground Workings
AMEC monitored remediation of underground workings, including verification that excavations
were performed to minimum required dimensions, and that the remediation plans were
completed as specified.
SAPROJECTS\1125E CCV CQA\H3 - CONSTRUCTION\LOB CERT REPORT\REPORT BOMLOB CERT REPORT 2009.07.07.DOC
12
