amen
Earth & Environmental
D) Subgrade Preparation
1) VLF
Subgrade preparation was performed in the existing drainage between stations E2+00 (+/-) and
E22+00 (+/-), approximately 100 feet right of centerline. This area was ripped to a depth of 6"
to 8" using a CAT D-6 dozer. The area was moisture conditioned and compacted using a CAT
563 vibratory smooth drum compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times. The area
was inspected and accepted by an AMEC representative prior to any fill placement.
Subgrade preparation was performed between stations K12+00 (+/-) and K13+00 (+/-),
approximately 0 to 100 feet left of centerline. The sediment pond in the area was excavated
using a CAT 345 excavator to excavate sediment from the pond. The removed material was
hauled to the overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road near stations A28+00
(+/-) to A36+00 (+/-). Competent material was encountered in the pond and a thin lift of fill
was placed in the pond. Compaction was performed using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum
compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times. The area was inspected and accepted
for fill placement by an AMEC field representative.
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850D excavator, a Komatsu 800 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a CAT
385 track excavator excavated structural fill material from the following areas: between
stations J6+00 (+/-) and J8+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 100 feet left of centerline; between
stations H25+00 (+/-) and H28+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 100 feet right of centerline;
between stations A 10+00 (+/-) and A 12+00 (+/-), approximately 40 left of centerline to 40 feet
right of centerline; and between stations A 16+00 (+/-) and A 18+00 (+/-), approximately 40
feet left of centerline to 40 feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was transported
using 777 haul trucks and 40-ton articulating haul trucks.
Structural fill was placed between stations A24+00 (+/-) and A28+00 (+/-), approximately 30
feet right of centerline to 75 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using CAT dozers
in 18" to 24" lifts (based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was.performed using a
CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory
compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations K7+00 (+/-) and K12+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to
300 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using CAT dozers in 18" to 24" lifts
(based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed using a CAT 773-water
truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory compactor passing
over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations F8+00 (+/-) and F12+00 (+/-), approximately 150
feet left of centerline to 150 feet right of centerline. Structural fill was placed using CAT
dozers in 18" to 24" lifts (based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed
using a CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory
Sheet 2 of 6
VLF Weekly Report WE 07.04.09.D.doc
