amen
Earth & Environmental
D) Subgrade Preparation
1) VLF
Subgrade preparation was performed between stations G12+00 (+/-) and B4+00 (+/-),
approximately 100 feet left of centerline to 250 feet left of centerline. This area was ripped to a
depth of 6" to 8" using a CAT D-8 dozer. The area was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773
water truck and compaction was performed using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum
compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times. The area was inspected and accepted
by an AMEC representative prior to any fill placement.
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A John Deere 850D excavator, a Komatsu 800 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a CAT
385 track excavator excavated structural fill material from the following areas: between
stations J6+00 (+/-) and J8+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 100 feet left of centerline; between
stations J10+00 (+/-) and J14+00 (+/-), approximately 50 to 100 feet left of centerline; between
stations A3+00 (+/-) and A6+00 (+/-), approximately 10 to 40 feet left of centerline; and
between stations A14+00 (+/-) and A16+00 (+/-), approximately 40 feet left of centerline to 40
feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was transported using 777 haul trucks and
40-ton articulating haul trucks.
Structural fill was placed between stations A24+00 (+/-) and A32+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to
200 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was placed using CAT dozers in 18" to 24" lifts
(based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed using a CAT 773-water
truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory compactor passing
over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations L0+00 (+/-) and L4+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to
200 feet left of centerline.
Structural fill was placed between stations J15+00 (+/-) and J19+00 (+/-), approximately 75
feet left of centerline to 75 feet right of centerline. Structural fill was placed using CAT dozers
in 18" to 24" lifts (based on rock size). Moisture conditioning of the fill was performed using a
CAT 773-water truck. Each lift was compacted with a CAT 563 smooth drum vibratory
compactor passing over the entire surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable).
Structural fill was placed between stations A43+00 (+/-) and A44+00 (+/-), approximately 200
to 275 feet left of centerline.
Sheet 2 of 7
VLF Weekly Report WE 06.27.09.D.doc
