West Elk Mine 2008 Annual Hydrology Report 32 <br />issues from alluvium and hydrological monitoring measurements are taken at the end of an outflow <br />pipe from an enclosed spring house. This spring has been monitored since 1995. <br />3.2.4 Springs above the E-Seam in the Minnesota Creek and <br />Dry Fork Drainage Basin <br />3.2.4.1 Spring J-4 <br />Spring J-4 is located in East Gulch East of Horse Gulch and is tributary to the Dry Fork and <br />Minnesota Creek (Map 2). It is situated south of the SE B-seam mine panels and north of the SOD <br />mine plan area. This spring issues from alluvium, is seasonal, and is normally dry in late summer <br />or autumn. Monitoring at this spring began in 1981. <br />3.2.5 Spring Monitoring Sites Added in WY 2006 <br />3.2.5.1 Spring 35-3 <br />Spring 35-3 is located in upper Deep Creek which is tributary to the North Fork (Map 2). This <br />spring is located east of the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring appears to issue from <br />alluvium. Baseline monthly monitoring of Spring 35-3 began in the spring of 2006 and included <br />measuring flow, collecting field water quality data, and collecting samples for laboratory water <br />• quality analyses from May through October 2006 (CDRMS, 2006). Routine monitoring (three <br />times per year) at this location began in WY 2007. <br />3.2.5.2 Deer Creek Spring <br />Deer Creek Spring is a decreed domestic spring located in Deer Creek which is tributary to Dry <br />Fork. It is located in the SOD mine plan area that is scheduled for development between 2011 and <br />2018 . The source of this spring is not known. Baseline monthly monitoring of Deer Creek Spring <br />began in the spring of 2006. Baseline monitoring of this station included measuring flow, <br />collecting field water quality data, and collecting samples for laboratory water quality analyses <br />from May through October 2006 (CDRMS, 2006). Routine monitoring (three times per year) <br />began in WY 2007. <br />3.2.5.3 Spring WCC-24 <br />Spring WCC-24 is a perennial spring located in a small unnamed tributary on the south side of Dry <br />Fork (Map 2). It is located west of the SOD mine plan area. The source of this spring is not <br />known. Baseline monthly monitoring of Spring WCC-24 began in the spring of 2006 and included <br />measuring flow, collecting field water quality data, and collecting samples for laboratory water <br />quality analyses from May through October 2006 (CDRMS, 2006).
