West Elk Mine 2008 Annual Hydrology Report 30
3.2.2.2 Spring 10-1
40 Spring 10-1 is located on the east side of Lower Box Canyon (Map 2). It is situated north of the
Box Canyon B-seam panels and issues from alluvium on slopes tributary to the North Fork. Flow
is seasonal and it is typically dry in late summer. Monitoring at this spring began in 1999.
3.2.2.3 Wiring E10-2
Spring E10-2 is located on a hillside east of an unnamed drainage tributary to the North Fork
between Sylvester Gulch and Box Canyon (Map 2). This spring is situated in landslide material
below a fractured sandstone cliff north of the Box Canyon B-seam panels. Low flows were
observed in WY 2005 and in the spring of WY 2006, but it has been damp or dry for most of the
period of record. Monitoring at this spring began in 1996.
3.2.2.4 Spring I5-1
Spring 15-1 is located on the west side of an unnamed drainage tributary to the North Fork between
Sylvester Gulch and Box Canyon (Map 2). This spring is situated north of the Box Canyon 13-
seam panels. The spring issues from alluvium and water is present only during peak flow months.
Monitoring at this spring began in 1996.
3.2.2.5 Spring G-1 a
Spring G-la is located in Sylvester Gulch on the west side of the drainage, north of the Box
Canyon B-seam panel area (Map 2). It issues from alluvium and is seasonal with moisture present
only during periods of snow melt or peak flow. Monitoring at this spring began in 1983.
3.2.2.6 Spring G-20
Spring G-20 is located in middle Sylvester Gulch on the east side of the drainage. It is located
north of the Box Canyon B-seam panels and east of the mine facilities (Map 2). It issues from
alluvium or landslide material and disperses water through a grassy area. Monitoring at this spring
began in 1979.
3.2.3 Springs above the B-Seam in the Jumbo Mountain Area in the
North Fork Drainage Basin
3.2.3.1 Spring CR-12 (Decreed Spring #12)
Spring CR-12 is located in Lone Pine Gulch north of the NW B-seam mine panels (Map 2). It
issues from alluvium on the south side of the gulch. This is a perennial spring, but the volume of
flow diminishes in summer and autumn. This spring has been monitored since 1993.
•
June 2009 HydroGeo, Inc.
