amec
Earth & Environmental
After inspection of the LOB Delivery Road Side Ditch, AMEC representatives designated
areas were rip-rap placement was necessary. Rip-rap was placed between stations 4+00 (+/-)
and 6+50 (+/-) and between stations 7+50 (+/-) to 9+75 (+/-), using a CAT 345 excavator and
40-ton articulation haul trucks.
The LOB Delivery Road construction was completed on 6/13/2009.
2) LOB Conveyor Corridor/Transfer Station
Fill placement at Conveyor Corridor #3 and #4 was completed using 40-ton haul trucks to
dump the structural fill material in the corridors. The material was loaded into the haul trucks
using a CAT 966 front-end loader, north east of the Arequa process. The structural fill material
was spread in 12" to 18" compacted lifts using a CAT D-8 dozer. The material was then
moisture conditioned and compacted using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum compactor,
passing over the entire surface at least 4 times.
The LOB Conveyor Corridor construction (Ames' portion) was completed 6/13/2009.
II) Underground Working
A) Drilling
Work is complete.
B) Mine Shaft/Stope Remediation
Excavation of the stope between Underground Workings #2015 and #2016 was completed. The
blasted area was excavated to an approximate depth of 40 feet using a CAT 345 excavator. It was
decided to backfill the stope with Coarse Shaft Backfill from that point, to the LOB Delivery road
surface. Backfilling of the stope was completed using twelve 40-ton articulating haul truck loads
of Coarse Shaft Backfill. The material was placed in 12" lifts in the stope and bucket tamped using
a CAT 345 excavator. A CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum compactor was used to compact each
lift when access was possible.
Remediation of Underground Working #2040 was completed. The working was located when
excavation of Conveyor Corridor #3 was completed. A two layer geogrid cap was installed over
the working, extending 15 feet past the limits of the working. Select structural fill material was
placed in 6" compacted lifts above and below the geogrid using a CAT 345 excavator and
compaction was performed using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum compactor. The second
geogrid layer was placed running perpendicular to the previous layer. A 12" compacted lift of
select structural fill was then placed over the second layer of geogrid and compacted using a CAT
563 vibratory smooth drum compactor. Four nuclear density tests were performed with results
averaging 96% of maximum dry density. Moisture-density relations were performed in accordance
with ASTM D-698-07.
Remediation of Underground Workings for the LOB Project is complete.
Sheet 2 of 8
LOB Weekly Report WE 06.13.09.D.doc
