Colowyo C-1981-019
18 June 2009
Pg 3/3
General Mine Plan Compliance: - The 101 dragline is on the East Pit highwall where it
was performing reclamation. It appears to have moved several hundred feet since
the last inspection.
- The 102 dragline was working on the west side of the West Pit doing pull-back work
on the F-Seam overburden.
- The 103 dragline was working in the West Pit removing F-Seam overburden.
- The 114 shovel operation was in the Taylor Draw area working on opening the area
for the highwall miner, which is scheduled to arrive around the end of July. They are
opening the area at the E-2 Seam, The 114 was not operating at the time of the
inspection.
- The 115 excavator was removing C-Seam overburden in the box-cut area of the
South Taylor Pit. They were hauling the overburden to the C-C' underrain of the East
Taylor Fill.
- The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP. The coal in the South Taylor pit is rolling quite a bit, with
localized rolling of over 40%. This is making the mining difficult.
Fish and Wildlife: There was a small herd of elk on the northern edge of the West Pit
Fill,
Air Resource Protection: - There has been quite a bit of rain at the site, including
showers and micro-bursts during the inspection. This has kept the fugitive dust from
the roads down.
Excess Spoil: The operator was currently dumping overburden from the South Taylor
Pit in the C-C' fork of the East Taylor Fill. This fork of the fill has almost reached the
bench where the rock crusher is located. Most of the area south of the rock crusher
bench appears to be at or very near its final topography. The operator is
constructing the pile in approximately 50-foot lifts as described in the approved plan
in the permit.
- The Streeter was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. The
vegetation is unseasonably green for this time of the year due to the continued rain
the area has been getting. The ditch on the north side of the fill remains stable.
This completes the 18 June 2009 inspection report for the Colowyo Mine.
