III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Topsoil & Revegetation
The wheat cover crop seeded last fall has made good initial growth along the mine entrance road corridor.
In the Pond 12 watershed, a serious Canada thistle infestation was noted on spoil areas within the slide
remediation area (as delineated on R&G map), south and west of YPM-6-3. Several dense;thistle patches were
also noted along reclaimed south facing slopes to the east of the large Pond 12 slide. These patches will need
to be treated in accordance with the approved weed control plan. To minimize future spread, it will be important
to prevent the seedling thistles on the spoil area from producing seed, and to eradicate the weeds from the area
to the extent possible, prior to future spoil grading and topsoiling activity in the vicinity.
Success of seedings conducted within the last couple years in the lower Pond 12 watershed area has been
quite variable. North facing slopes between YPM-6-2 and YPM-5-1 are quite diverse, with high sagebrush
density and significant presence of snowberry. Portions of the south facing slopes in the same vicinity exhibit
poor perennial establishment, with significant rilling in some locations. Contour drill interseeding is warranted in
some locations (as noted on the R&G map).
5
