COR-040000 Stormwater Management Plan
2. DESCRIPTION OF MINING ACTIVITIES (COR-040000, §I.B.1)
This SWMP covers industrial activities associated with the Van 4 Shaft mine.
The project area is located within Montrose County, Colorado (Figure 1). The location of the
site is as follows (Figure 2):
Section 29, T46N, R17W
The Van 4 Mine is located on Monogram Mesa located east of the Colorado-Utah state line in
the southwest corner of Montrose County. The shaft is located approximately 10 miles
directionally west of Naturita, Colorado adjacent to County Road DD19.
Surface activity and disturbance is shown on the site map (Figure 3). Surface disturbance at the
mine will be limited to the development rock area, vent hole shafts, and their access roads.
Surface facilities are located near the mine shaft, and consist of the hoist house and shop. There
will be no processing activities at the mine site. The ore will be transported to the White Mesa
Mill located near Blanding, Utah for processing. Surface vent holes for the active mine are
located throughout the project area. The locations of these can be found on Figure 2. A typical
drawing of a surface vent hole can be found as Figure 4. Generally, these have been naturally
vegetated with native species from surrounding plant communities.
• The possible features that may be at each location include:
• Development Rock Areas (DRAB)
• Stockpile areas
• Topsoil stockpile areas
• Surface drainage and control structures
• Fuel and oil storage areas
• Maintenance shop and warehouse
• Designated parking areas and storage yards
• Mine access roads and pads
• Temporary emergency generator
• Air compressor stations
• Septic system
• Solid waste storage (trash, scrap metal, batteries)
• Propane heating system
Specific features for the facility are shown on the individual site map (Figure 3).
A
Van 4 Shaft SWMP
2
Denison Mines (USA) Corp.
