See Exhibit B. The areas to be mined are located between the base of the bluff
and the Gunnison River.
The total affected land of the proposed permit contains 58.3 acres. The affected land is
made up of the following areas:
Location Area(Acres)
1. Pit #1 4.9
2. Pit #2 10.5
3. Pit #3 10.5
4. Pit #4 7.0
5. Pit #5 10.5
6. Asphalt Plant Site 3.0
7. Haul Road 11.9
Mining will be done using front end loaders, hydraulic excavators, dozers and trucks. The
mining operation consists of 1) stripping, 2) dewatering and 3) mining the sand and
gravel deposit.
1). The topsoil and overburden which overlays the sand and gravel deposit will be
stripped using dozers, loaders trucks. The stripped material will be stockpiled around
the perimeter of the pit for later use in the backfilling and slope flatting of the area to
be mined. The 4 to 6 inches of the topsoil will be stockpiled separately from the
overburden for later use in the reclamation of the area.
2). The area stripped is next trenched using hydraulic excavator. The ground water is
pumped from the trench directly to the Gunnison River.
