amec
Earth & Environmental
compacted using a 563 vibratory smooth drum compactor. Five 24" thick wall sections had
been installed by the end of the week. Eleven nuclear density tests were performed with test
results averaging 97% of maximum dry density. Moisture-density compaction testing was
performed in accordance with ASTM D-1557-07. Nuclear density testing was performed in
accordance with ASTM D-2922 & 3017. Structural fill material was hauled from the LOB
Delivery Road cut using 40-ton articulating haul trucks. Structural Fill was placed in 18" to
24" lifts (based on rock size). After moisture conditioning the material, compaction was
performed using a CAT 563 vibratory smooth drum roller passing over the entire surface of
each lift a minimum of 4-passes. A CAT 966 front-end loader, a John Deere 35D excavator,
and a CAT D-8 dozer were used for final site grading. This process was performed in
accordance with the method specification for previously established fill testing.
E) Miscellaneous
No work performed during the week.
II) Underground Working
A) Drilling
Confirmatory drilling was performed using one to two track mounted rigs north of Underground
Working # 2016 on the southern edge of the LOB Delivery Road. An AMEC field representative
monitored the drilling. This process will continue next week.
B) Mine Shaft/Stope Remediation
The remediation of underground working #2016, located on the southern edge of the LOB
Delivery Road, was performed using a 320 track excavator to place Coarse Shaft Backfill in the
shaft. Approximately 63 loads of Coarse Shaft Backfill were end dumped into the shaft and stope
using 40-ton articulating haul trucks. The remediation of the working will continue next week.
Underground Working #2030 was excavated using one CAT 320 excavator to a depth of
approximately 20-feet exposing the end of the shaft. The underground working was backfilled
using the excavated material placed in 2-foot lifts and compacted using the back of the excavator
bucket. The top 6-feet was completed with 4-loads of Coarse Shaft Backfill delivered by a 40-ton
articulating haul truck. The Coarse Shaft Backfill was placed in 18 to 24-inch lifts and compacted
using a CAT smooth drum vibratory roller passing over the entire surface a minimum of 4-passes.
During backfilling of the Transfer Station #5 retaining wall, a continuation of Underground
Working #2040 was encountered in the north slope. The working was backfilled using Coarse
Shaft backfill as the backfill progressed. The shaft was excavated back to the previously placed
Coarse Shaft Backfill ensuring the backfill was continuous. Field observations indicated more of
the working could be exposed after the shot scheduled in the area. Backfilling the working will
continue next week after the blasting in the area is performed.
Sheet 3 of 9
LOB Weekly Report WE 05.30.09.D.doc
