Table D-2 LaSalle Pit Mining Sequence
Task Comments Time Required
(months)

1 Site preparation: Initial topsoil stripping and
installation of processing facilities
1.5
2 Mining of Phase 1 93.6
3 Reclaim Phase 1 and construct industrial yard 3.0
4 Mine Phase 2 366.0
5 Reclaim Phase 2 3.0
Total (months) 467.1
Tota I (years) 38.9
The ruining schedule detailed in this table is planned to minimize disturbance by reclaiming
areas as additional mining is undertaken, and is based on a reasonable projection of average
production rates. The table also shows that mining will occur over approximately 38.8 years.
3. Mine Facilities and Operation
•
Since the post mining land use for the LaSalle Pit is an industrial yard, there will be a number of •
industrial maintenance and storage facilities on site. Included among these are back hoes, dozers,
loaders, haul trucks, and other equipment used by the Montrose County Road and Bridge
Department. Parking and office facilities for Montrose County Road and Bridge employees will
also be constructed on site. Upon the completion of Phase 1, the main maintenance and office
facilities will be constructed on the pit bottom.
Water will be used to control dust on the haul roads and also on the crushing and screening
operations. Magnesium chloride may also be used as needed to control dust. Since mining will
not take place below the water table, no pit pump will be necessary.
In addition to the fuel tanks present on site, a fuel truck may be used to provide fuel for the
mobile equipment on site. Once Phase 1 is mined out, the area will be converted to an industrial
yard. As such, maintenance of mining equipment will take place in the Phase 1 area, along with
all of the fuel storage. A truck scale of 20' x 50' size is also installed in the facilities area. A
small.-scale shack will be installed next to the scale. •
LaSalle Pit, April 09 D-4
