Discharge was measured at the V-notch weir(above photo) and was estimated at .8 feet on
above the notch crest. This calculates to about 1.42 cubic feet per second (cfs)which is
about 637 gallons per minute (gpm). This discharge rate is lower than the pump flow meter
reading (approx. 700 gpm) but is a reasonably close correlation considering measurement
errors and a limited amount of seepage in the pond itself.
Pond 7 (below left) is nearly full and will require discharge at some point in the near future.
Pond 8 (below right) water levels have dropped since the fall and are well below the lowest
discharge point. Pond 4 continues to be effectively dry.
West Mine containment #1 has been cleaned of sediment as recommended in the 0 quarter
2008 pond inspection report. The perimeter ditch immediately south of the Purgatoire River
has also been cleaned as recommended in a recent DRMS inspection report.
Processing Waste
The Refuse Disposal
Area was inspected
on foot. The 100-year
diversion ditch was
found in good
condition with no
breaches or sign of
damage of any kind.
The surface of the
RDA was reworked a
number of years ago
to improve drainage
and slow the delivery
to the rock
downdrains. Since
that time, the surface
has developed
moderate sized
gullies (at right).
4
