Christy Woodward
July 31, 2008
Page 7
2. Describe lithology, alteration, mineralization and grain size distribution according to the
USCS for each trench.
3. Collect a representative composite sample approximately from the 2 to 4 foot layer of
excavated material at each trench and place in two 5-gallon buckets. Collect samples using
either a disposable one-time use scoop or trowel or a shovel that is decontaminated
between sample locations. If non-dedicated sampling devices are used (e.g. shovel),
decontamination is necessary to remove residual materials from the device, which may
otherwise bias the results of subsequent samples collected. In general, decontamination
should consist of (1) scrubbing off excess solids, (2) scrub with a liquinox solution or
equivalent laboratory cleaner, and (3) rinsing equipment with distilled water thoroughly.
4. Perform a USCS logging of each collected sample.
5. After homogenizing the sample with a shovel/trowel, split a portion of the sample and
place in a 1-gallon zip-loc bag for ABA and total metals analysis. Double bag the sample
once placed in the shipping container.
6. Retain the remainder of each sample in the 5-gallon bucket for MWMP analysis.
7. Label each zip-loc bag and bucket with an appropriate naming system to describe (1) the
development rock area being sampled (e.g. Topaz), (2) sample type (e.g. development
rock, ore, or soil), and (3) particular sample location (e.g. north, south, middle, 1, 2, 3, etc.)
8. Fill out laboratory chain of custody form using a selected sample designation approach
and submit samples to the laboratory for analyses identified in Table 2.
9. Survey the location of the trenches using a global positioning system (GPS) instrument.
10. Backfill and close the trench.
Ore S-„_= a Collection
Two composite ore samples will be collected. The ore samples will be collected using a hand
shovel and placed in a 5-gallon bucket for ABA and total metals analysis. Decontamination of
the sampling equipment is not needed between individual composite locations because they
are all part of the same sample. Label the sample buckets, complete the chain-of-custody, and
submit for laboratory analyses identified in table 2.
Soil Sample Collection
Soil samples will be collected using a track-mounted excavator in areas that are located within
the permitted affected area of the mines. Soil samples collected from Bureau of Land
Management lands outside of the permitted affected area of the mines (i.e. background soil
samples) will be collected with hand tools such as an auger or shovel.
