The ground water monitoring plan meets the requirements of Rule
4.05.13(1). See Exhibit 25 of the permit application for further
information.
2. The applicant will conduct monitoring of surface water in a manner
approved by the Division. The monitoring plan was submitted under
2.05.6(3)(b)(iv) and includes the following:
Under the provisions of the NPDES permit, the operator will prepare and
submit quarterly compliance reports on all discharge points at the mine
and loadout sites. In the event of a discharge, selected water quality
parameters will be taken and flow measured while samples will be taken
weekly if discharge is occurring. Parameters analyzed can be found in
Exhibit 25 of the permit application. In addition, surface flow (when
conditions permit) will be measured both upstream and downstream of the
mine and samples will be collected and analyzed quarterly for the
following creeks: Magpie Creek, Newlin Creek, Second Alkali Creek and
Oak Creek. Maps 12 and 13 show the location of monitoring points. .
All monitoring information of surface and ground waters is submitted in the
Annual Hydrology Report (see pages 2.05.6-52 through 54 of the permit
application).
G. Transfer of Wells
EFCI currently has no plans to transfer any exploration boreholes or monitoring
wells for subsequent use as water wells.
H. Discharge of Water into an Underground Mine
At the time of this permit renewal(RN-05), water has not been diverted or
discharged into any underground mine in conjunction with on-going mining and
reclamation activities at the Southfield Mine.
However, during operations, the Division approved Technical Revision No. 19, as
a response to Stipulation No.20, which approved plans for a closed-loop system
within the Southfield Mine workings. Water was approved to be pumped from
one area of the mine via a pipeline to previously abandoned workings within the
mine. This revision was approved on 24 October 1994.
1. Stream Buffer Zones
There are no perennial streams or surface drainages in the Southfield Mine area
or loadout that support significant biological communities.
