hazardous substance will be removed and properly disposed of. Personnel will wash hands and
face upon leaving the site.
7.2.2 Equipment Decontamination
All equipment that comes in contact with potentially contaminated material will be
decontaminated before and after each use. Decontamination will consist of washing with a
solution of water and Alconox (or equivalent) and rinsing with distilled water. Rinse water will
be discarded onsite away from natural drainages. Decontaminated equipment will be placed in
clean plastic bags or otherwise stored in a clean area between uses. Prior to exiting the site, if
radioactive materials are present, decontaminated equipment will be scanned using a portable
radioactive contamination monitoring instrument (alpha-scintillation detector) to monitor for
the presence of surface contamination. A pressure washer should be used on large pieces of
equipment. Prior to exiting the site, decontaminated equipment will be checked for the
presence of surface contamination.
Vehicles used onsite must be fully decontaminated of visible or indicated (instrument scan)
contamination using a pressure washer in a specially constructed decontamination bay that
contains all contamination materials. Alternatively, vehicles may remain onsite as dedicated
site vehicles until work is complete.
To prevent the introduction of new contamination to job sites, all employee or subcontractor
vehicles and excavation equipment shall be fully decontaminated of soils, vegetation, grease, oil,
and other chemicals prior to entering a new AMSO job site. Vehicles with fluid leaks of any kind
must be repaired prior to use onsite. Vehicles that develop leaks while onsite must be repaired;;
all dripping fluids will be contained with spill containment systems. Where required by the
owner, drilling rigs and similar equipment will be fitted with spill containment systems during
onsite operations.
7.3 Disposal Procedures
Discarded PPE associated with project work will be decontaminated and placed in plastic bags
and disposed of with other trash/debris. Other trash and debris generated as part of site
activities will be bagged and properly discarded offsite. All employees and subcontractors are
expected to maintain good housekeeping procedures on a daily basis. 40
