•
Conclusions
Based on the subsurface conditions encountered at the site, we recommend that the proposed building or
equipment structures to be constructed at the18 Left Shaft Site be supported on foundation systems
consisting of straight shaft skin friction/end bearing piers drilled into the underlying claystone bedrock
materials. A foundation system consisting of helical or screw piles advanced into the underlying claystone
bedrock materials is another feasible type of deep foundation system. Design parameters and
recommendations for the above foundation systems, as well as for floor slabs, foundation walls and
retaining structures, site grading and pavement sections are outlined herein.
Purpose and Scope of Study
This report presents the results of a Geotechnical Investigation for the proposed 18 Left Shaft Site Pad,
Cuttings Pit, Detention Ponds and Access Road to be located west of County Road #27 and on the Cross
Mountain Ranch in Routt County, Colorado. The approximate location of the project site is shown in
Figure #1.
A field exploration program was conducted at the site to obtain information on the subsurface conditions at
the site. Material samples obtained during the subsurface investigation were tested in the laboratory to
provide data on the classification and engineering characteristics of the on-site soils. The results of the field
and laboratory investigations are presented herein.
This report has been prepared to summarize the data obtained and to present our conclusions and
recommendations based on our understanding of the proposed construction and the subsurface conditions
encountered. Design parameters and a discussion of geotechnical engineering considerations related to
construction of the proposed structures are included.
Proposed Construction
It is our understanding, based on our discussions with the client and our review of the site plan provided by
the client that the proposed construction will consist of a 350' by 250' shaft pad and a 50' by 100'
transformer pad. It is also our understanding that two 176,000 ft3 cuttings pits and an access road
approximately 450' in length from County Road #27 to the site will be constructed for this project. It is
also our understanding that two sedimentation ponds will be constructed to the southwest of the pad area to
address the drainage and sediment control requirements across the site.
•
Job Number: 08-8241 NWCC, Inc.
