Western Mining District 18-Left Shaft Site Baseline Soil Investigation <br />0 APPENDIX 3 <br />BINCO SERIES <br />The Binco series consists of very deep, well drained soils formed in residuum, colluvium, and <br />alluvium derived from sedimentary rocks. Binco soils are on alluvial fans and mountain foot <br />slopes. Slopes are 0 to 45 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 12 inches and the <br />mean annual temperature is about 43 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, smectitic, frigid Chromic Udic Haplusterts <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Binco clay loam - grassland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise <br />noted.) <br />A--0 to 7 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) clay loam, dark grayish brown (2.5YR 4/2) <br />moist; moderate medium granular structure; slightly hard, friable, very sticky and very plastic, <br />strongly effervescent, moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (2 to 9 inches thick) <br />Bssl--7 to 24 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) clay loam, dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) <br />moist; moderate medium and coarse prismatic structure parting to moderate medium subangular <br />blocks; very hard, very firm, very sticky and very plastic; few intersecting slickensides; strongly <br />effervescent, moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (7 to 34 inches thick) <br />Bss2--24 to 37 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) clay, dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) moist; <br />massive; very hard, firm, very sticky and very plastic; few intersecting slickensides; strongly <br />effervescent, moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (8 to 28 inches thick) <br />Ck--37 to 48 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) clay, dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) moist; <br />massive; very hard, firm, very sticky and very plastic; visible streaks and seams of secondary <br />lime; violently effervescent, strongly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 15 inches thick) <br />C-48 to 60 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) clay, dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) moist; <br />massive; very hard, firm, very sticky and very plastic; violently effervescent, strongly alkaline. <br />TYPE LOCATION: Grand County, Colorado; about 10 miles north of Kremmling, <br />approximately 750 feet north and 2,400 feet east of the southwest corner of Sec. 22, T. 3 N., R. <br />81 W. <br />0 Habitat Management, Inc.
