MOUNTAIN COAL
IIICOMPANVL.L.C.
A Subsidiary of Arch Western Resources. LLC
4. Borehole diameters for the reclamation cost estimate (2.05.4(2)(b));
West Elk Mine
P.O. Box 591
5174 Highway 133
Somerset, CO 81434
(970) 929-5015
Fax(970)929-5595
*An auger will be used to drill a 10" diameter hole an average depth of 20' in soil materials and
a rock bit will be used to drill a 4" diameter hole an additional 10' into bedrock, resulting in a
total depth of approximately 30' per borehole.
A plan for backfilling, soil stabilizing, compacting and grading, with post-mining contour
maps and appropriate cross-sections that are typical and representative of the anticipated
character of the final surface configuration of the reclaimed drilling area and road
(2.05.4(2)(c));
* As in response #3 above, for reclamation of any necessary accesses or pads constructed (only
four proposed sites may require pad or road preparation), the soils that were removed and
stockpiled in a berm along the accesses and/or pads will be returned and compacted to the
approximate original contours as shown on the attached topographical map. Topsoil salvage
from the sites will be redistributed to as evenly as possible over the recountoured pads and
accesses. The soil surface will be scarified, if need be, and seeded with MCC's approved seed
mixture per Table 37 of MCC's approved permit document.
6. A plan for revegetation of the proposed disturbances that meets the requirements of 4.15
(2.05.4(2)(e));
* See response #3 and 5 above.
7. A description of the proposed post-mining land use for the proposed disturbances, and whether
the proposed post-mining land use is different from the pre-mining land use (2.05.5(2));
* As stated in the original MR 354 application, these soils and geotechnical boreholes will be
used to obtain data for use in designing a future coal refuse pile in this location. As a result, the
post mining land use may be a future designed rock fill, and if not will continue to serve as
wildlife habitat.
8. A description of whether the areas proposed for new light use road and the geotechnical drilling
will require clearance by the State Historic Preservation Officer (2.04.4);
